Las Vegas Convention Centre Loop or The Loop is the new under-construction underground transport system. According to a report by Associated Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), this new transport system will consist of three strategically placed passenger stations and two one-way tunnels connecting them.
Approved by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Board of Directors, The Loop will serve the visitors of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and help them to cover the grounds faster from one end to the other, roughly within a minute instead of the usual 15 minute walk. The Loop will connect the existing LVCC with the new West Hall expansion which is due to open by January 2021 along with The Loop.
With a budget of $50 million, Elon Musk’s the Boring Company has undertaken the task of building this underground people-moving system which is very similar to a subway. One of the tunnels has already been completed while the other is under construction. The three passenger stations are also under construction. The underground transport will not be a traditional railcar but an autonomous electric vehicle (AEV).
The standard people-moving vehicle, that is the AEV that is proposed to be used in this project will be a Tesla Model X or Model 3. Incidentally, Elon Musk also owns Tesla. A modified Model 3 chassis will allow the transport to accommodate 16 people at once. Guided by conduit sensors in the tunnels, the AEVs and can comfortably travel up to 155 mph.
