PM Modi Kickstarts NLC’s 300 MW Solar Project in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the commencement of construction for NLC India Ltd’s 300 MW solar power project in Barsingsar, Rajasthan. Aligned with MNRE’s CPSU Scheme and awarded by IREDA in October 2021, this initiative is geared towards amplifying India’s renewable energy capacity and fostering sustainable development.

Projected to cost around ₹1,756 crore, the solar power project is set to be operational by September 2024. Addressing the audience through a video conference, Prime Minister Modi underscored India’s swift strides in solar energy generation. He emphasized the crucial role of such projects in Rajasthan, not only in delivering clean and affordable energy but also in generating employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

Strategically located near the existing Barsingsar Thermal Power Station, NLC’s solar power plant enjoys convenient power evacuation and shared infrastructure. The company has secured a power usage agreement for the entire 300 MW capacity with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd at a tariff of ₹2.52 per unit, ensuring a dependable and economical power supply.

Over its anticipated 25-year lifespan, the project is expected to produce approximately 18.75 billion units of green energy and offset around 18 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. During the construction phase, it is projected to provide employment to nearly 600 individuals, with over 100 engaged in operation and maintenance.
