In the latter half of February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Pune for the inauguration of the new terminal at Pune International Airport and the Metro line connecting Ruby Hospital to Ramwadi junction. The highly anticipated visit has spurred preparations from various agencies, including Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Agency (PMRDA), and district collectors.
Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently conducted an inspection of the new terminal, highlighting Pune’s rich historical and cultural significance. Addressing concerns about potential delays in the inauguration, he assured that decisions would be made in consultation with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers.
Taking inspiration from Pune’s iconic Shaniwar Wada, the new terminal boasts an expansive 51,595 sq m and is designed to cater to 12 million passengers annually, a significant increase from its current capacity of 7.2 million.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the Ruby Hospital to Ramwadi Metro line and may also pay homage to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Shivneri Fort on his birth anniversary. The visit holds importance not only for the infrastructural developments but also for honoring historical and cultural landmarks in Pune.
