The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation has sealed a crucial pact with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to kickstart the first phase of a metro rail initiative connecting Bhubaneswar with Cuttack over the span of the next four years.
In this development, DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar emphasized the timely commencement of transit-oriented development in Odisha.
Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, virtually present at the event, highlighted the monumental ₹6,255 crore project funded entirely by the state government, marking a historic investment in Odisha’s infrastructure. He stressed that this venture, part of the 5T Initiative, signifies a new era for the state.
Addressing the significance of the project, Vikas Kumar reiterated the opportunities it presents for transit-oriented development in Odisha, foreseeing an upliftment in the region’s economy and fostering substantial growth.
The metro line, stretching 26 kilometers and encompassing 20 stations, will traverse from Bhubaneswar airport to Trisulia in Cuttack along an elevated structure, either on the median or adjacent to existing roads. Notable stations include Capital Hospital, Rajmahal Square, Jayadev Vihar Square, and Patia Square.
Further expansion plans aim to extend the metro project to nearby towns like Khurda and Puri in subsequent phases, promising a transformative change in the transportation landscape.
