Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) announced the commencement of coal production at its Gare Palma IV/6 mine in Chhattisgarh. This development is poised to support the expansion plans of JSPL’s Raigarh integrated steel plant and enhance the company’s raw material security, according to a statement.
The Gare Palma IV/6 mine’s coal output will play a pivotal role in facilitating the proposed expansion of the Raigarh integrated steel plant, increasing its capacity from the current 3.6 MTPA to an impressive 9.6 MTPA. Bimlendra Jha, Managing Director of JSPL, emphasised that this expansion aligns seamlessly with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, as it will significantly boost India’s steel production capacity using indigenous coal.
Jha also stated that JSPL intends to primarily finance this expansion through internal accruals, ensuring a robust and sustainable financial position.
