BAI inaugurates National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati

In a significant advancement for Indian badminton, the Badminton Association of India inaugurated the National Center of Excellence (NCE). The centre’s primary focus is not only to enhance the skills of players but also to nurture coaching talent.

Esteemed Indonesian coach Mulyo Handoyo will oversee the progress of singles players, while former All-England champion Ivan Sozonov from Russia and Korea’s Park Tae-Sang will lead the coaching team.

During the ceremony, an agreement was formalised between BAI and the Government of Assam.

The NCE showcases 16 courts specially designed to cater to the intensive training requirements of 60 athletes in its initial phase. Additionally, the facility comprises a state-of-the-art 4,000 square feet gymnasium, modern fitness apparatus, a 60-bed residential area for players, and a dedicated 2,000 sq ft physiotherapy center.

Tata BlueScope Steel contributed a contemporary double-skin roofing system for the Badminton National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, contributing to India’s efforts in constructing high-quality sports infrastructure.

Encompassing an expansive 40,000 square feet, the bustling arena also witnessed prominent Indian badminton stars such as Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala, Krishna Prasad Garaga, and Dhruv Kapila engaging in an exhibition match.
